Admin HN cut

Contributing to the housing and homelessness sector doesn't always mean working on the frontline or in specialist roles. Every organisation needs people with great administration and organisational expertise to keep things running smoothly in the background to esnure direct support services are delivered to those who need it.

Administration and Support Service roles often encompass a wide range of tasks and skills, great for people who like variety in their work or are interested in exploring different specific streams for potential future roles. If you’re new to the sector, an administrative role at a homelessness support service or housing provider is perfect to develop or use existing transferable skills, while also gaining sector-specific knowledge and experience.

Tasks and areas of work can include:

  • Documentation: document preparation, preparing agendas and minutes for meetings, assisting with presentations, filing emails and reports, assisting with client files and records.
  • Customer service: answering phone calls and directing enquiries to colleagues and stakeholders, welcoming guests to the office/facility.
  • Executive support: Diary management for executives and other colleagues, organising meetings with stakeholders, arranging travel.
  • Office management: Asset management, arranging maintenance and cleaning, preparing rooms for meetings, ordering stationery and other equipment, liaising with external providers and stakeholders.
  • Finance: Assisting with invoicing, banking, petty cash, credit card reconciliation, reimbursements.
  • HR support: Monitor and maintain staff training records, coordinate onboarding of new employees.
